Biographical notes: A member of the Country Liberal Party, and later an Independent, from 2001, Loraine Braham served as the Member for Braitling in the Northern Territory Assembly from 1994 until her retirement in 2008. She was Speaker of the Assembly from 1997 until 1999 and again from 2001 until 2005 making her the first female Speaker of Parliament in the Northern Territory. Loraine has published works on voting and statehood for the Northern Territory.
