Dale, Annie Mary
|Date of Death:||1938-12-13|
|Place of Birth:||Hobart (Tas.)|
|Place of Death:||Adelaide (S.A.)|
|Biographical notes:||Anna married John Graham Dow on 18 May 1893 in a civil ceremony at a residence. The marriage is registered as having taken place at Burra, South Australia. On 1 June 1893, John joined the South Australian Police Force and was immediately transferred to the Northern Territory to be stationed at Burundi, followed by postings at Palmerston and Pine Creek. Anna accompanied her husband to the Territory. In 1895, when Anna was 26 and living in Pine Creek, she was one of the 82 women who enrolled to vote after the franchise was granted to South Australian and Territory women in 1894. Her occupation was listed as "married woman". John and Anna had two sons, Graham, who also joined the police force and went to the two wars and McFarlane, who was born in Darwin where he worked as a clerk prior to enlisting for the Great War. John returned to South Australia on 1 August 1901. Anna appears to have left earlier since she was taken off the Pine Creek Roll when she left the district in 1900. When Anna was listed as the next of kin on her husband's service record, she was residing at Glenelg in South Australia where she remained despite her husband returning to the Territory. Anna died at the Adelaide Hospital on 13 December 1938 at 69.|
