|Biographical notes:||Annie was born to Ann and George Birkett in Liverpool, Lancashire. Annie and her sister Isabella Jane appear to have arrived together into Darwin in 1893 from a southern port. There is no evidence of their parents. Annie was to take up teaching while her sister was a nurse and matron in Palmerston as well as the Burra hospital near Pine Creek. Annie married Nicholas Holtze in the Wesleyan Church, Palmerston on Wednesday 3 July 1895. They had three children, Evlampia (Evie), Maurice and Olga. In 1895, when Annie was 37 and living in Palmerston, she was one of the 82 Territory women who enrolled to vote after the franchise was granted to South Australian and Territory women in 1894. Her occupation was listed as “married woman”. After her husband’s sudden death in 1913, Annie resided for a time in Adelaide, but returned to a government teaching position in Darwin. Ill health resulting from an accident caused her to return to Adelaide with her youngest daughter Olga by steamer on 20 February 1917. Annie was to die from her injuries in May and was buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Mitcham.|
