Description: Sergeant Donald Kelway Storrie. No. 19805 RAAF No. 20 Squadron. Darwin April 1942-April 1944. Recruited Melbourne 29 November 1940. Born 20 January 1920, Elsternwich, Melbourne.
Notes: Don, joined the Airforce in 1940. He was married to Alma. He was an engineer before the airforce. Served as ground staff before being sent to back to New South Wales to train as a flight engineer. See National Archives Records: (No. 125) Moved Darwin September 1944-. No. 20 Squadron. Lost in action 7 March 1945. Flown 18 operational sorties, a total of 391hours 45minutes operational flying time (O.F.T.) with No. 20 Squadron. See National Archives Record: page 123. Presumption of Death of crew of Catalina aircraft A24-203. See National Archives Record: RAAF Casualty Record pg.12 states: "Catalina A24-203 of No. 20 Squadron took off on an operational flight on 7 March 1945, and failed to return to its base. The crew of the aircraft at the time of it loss comprised: Pilot Officer Ross William Schulz (417318) Captain, Pilot Officer Malcolm Oswald Merrett (412995) 2nd Pilot, Flying Officer Keith McClements Caulley (405902) W/O Air., No. 410296 W/O Walter Voss Bates W/O Air., No. 419457 W/O James Reginald Cleworth Nav.B., No. 67893 F/Sgt Alfred Russell Jones Flt.Engnr., No. 68674 F/Sgt William Alan Rowe Flt.Engnr., No. 73252 Sgt. Walter Douglas Scott Amourer (A/G), No. 19805 Sgt. Donald Kelway Storrie Fitter 11.A.(A/G)". The plane was never recovered. His name is on plaques in the Australian War Memorial, and on a British Memorial plaque in Labuan.
